ESSAY : What is the symbolic meaning of horses in dreams?

Horses are swift elegant creatures often linked to romance and excitement. Those are good clues to their symbolic meanings. Its true that horses can link to excitement and passions. But one feature of horses is the difficulty with controlling them. If that is a feature of the dream then maybe it links to something that can easily get out of control. Often battles in history were lost by cavalry charges were horses turned and charged into their own troops causing utter chaos and defeat.

Often horse dreams can be linked to excitement and upcoming events which will test us. E.g.

"Its nerve wracking waiting for the big day. It could easily go so wrong."[Dream symbol - Horse rears]

Sometimes horses can link to someones passion on an issue. E.g.

"I am trying to calm her down. She is so PASSIONATE and OUT OF CONTROL. She may easily turn her anger towards me"[Dream symbol - point gun at horse]

Horses can be connected with our general lives and our ability to meet a challenge and take risks. E.g.

"I need to take go head on into life and TAKE RISKS. So it could easily go wrong. Life is short."[Dream symbol - Horse jumps]

"Perhaps I need to slow down and BE MORE CAREFUL. Things could easily go wrong. "[Dream symbol - Horse jumps]

"But I was heading straight for disaster. I was in a constant depression. I needed to TAKE A CHANCE or I would have ended up in a rut. I just needed to do something to BREAK OUT of that state of mind"[Dream symbol - horse riding]

"I know that when I start my new job life will be MORE EXCITING" [Dream symbol - horse]

"I know I need to slow down and be less hedonistic. It would make life so much more satisfying. I tend to exhaust myself living life at such a fast pace. I have made a real attempt to control myself recently " [Dream symbol - horse being put down with dignity]

THE DREAM - I am somewhere near the bottom of Jacobs mount. The biggest hill in my home town. There is someone telling me that there is nothing left of the old town - its like some small town American place in the outback. There is nothing left of the brothel. I am shown that all that is left is - I look in and hear the sound of a newly born baby. There also appear to be horses there.

Then I am near home. Some family is moving out. They have a very large wardrobe ready to be moved onto the removal truck. They have a removal truck the size of a superstore delivery truck.

THE REALITY The dreamer was going through some life changes. He was just about to start a new job. Previous to that he had been in somewhat of a rut.

THE INTERPRETATION New born babies often symbolise new and fresh circumstances freshly born into your life. So the connection with the new job was obvious. The dream is also associated with horse(symbols of passions). That showed the passion with which the dreamer was approaching the new circumstances.

The Mount in the dream could have symbolised some tough circumstances ahead. He would have some difficult times ahead but it was something he was looking forward to.

The brothel was maybe a symbol of some of his bad habits previously. He was getting into a rut. The old town represented his old involvements in life and old ways of thinking.

The removals were a clear sign of change. This dream represented the movement to a new situation.
