Below you will see a series of quotes. Each quote represents the meaning of a particular dream(these are all dreams where the meaning is understood totally). For instance one dream may have meant that the dreamer was having trouble at work. In that case the quote may simply be "There is a bad atmosphere at work". Some information is included about which dream symbols were included in the dream(within the squares brackets). Often a sample dream is included which shows you how the dream interpretation was reached.

ESSAY : What is the symbolic meaning of bridges in dreams?

Bridges enable you to get over an obstacle. They help you carry on your journey. In dreams water symbolises the emotions in your life. Often crossing rivers can symbolise a need to overcome a workload or series of problems in order to carry on.

In many cases the bridge suggests that you are at an emotional junction. You are finding it emotionally difficult to move forward. E.g.

"I have made really good preperations but its the actual doing that scares me. I am SCARED TO MOVE FORWARD with the project"[Dream symbol - precarious bridge][the dream on which this quote is based is featured in full at the end of this article]

"I want to BREAK AWAY FROM THEM because the place really drains my energy and I need to concentrate on other things. But I am not sure how to."[Dream symbol - bridge of rocks over a river]

"I have started to deal with some difficult emotional issues. I realise it will not be easy."[Dream symbol - crossing long bridge]

"I hate my life with my husband already. He is wanting me to move to his home country. I am forced to stay in the house as it is. If we start living in his country then I can see things getting a whole lot worse. I am at a point of no return and need to make a decision now"[Dream symbol - bridge]

"I have tried and tried and it seems POINTLESS TRYING ANY LONGER. They just do not get on with me"[Dream symbol - bridge]

Bridges can suggest a link with a very crucial and pivotal moment. E.g.

"I know that at pivotal movements I find it difficult. I just cannot overcome my lack of confidence"[Dream symbol - I lose my balance crossing a bridge]

A bridge in a simple sense links two different sides. It can signal attempts to build a bridge and heal some differences. E.g.

"I have not been good terms with my family for a long time. Yet I am agreeing to meet up with my sister. I am not sure if we will sort out differences though"[Dream symbol - joining together two bridges]

"Me and my girlfriend have been arguing and I am simply not going to compromise with her and help sort this out"[Dream symbol - jump over broken bridges]

DREAM TIP : Dreams capture your feelings on some issue. Write down several phrases that capture the current state of your feelings. Think of feelings such as

1. RELATIONSHIPS E.g. "My boyfriend is still in a mood. "
2. TASKS E.g. "I have a report to write and I have been thinking about what style to write it in"
3. PARANOIAS E.g. "Yesterday was really quite trying. It was as if people were trying to wind me up"
4. THE DAY BEFORE E.g. "I had a conversation with a stranger yesterday that made me think of my own childhood"
5. HEALTH ISSUES E.g. "I think my knee has recovered and I can go jogging again"
6. THE DAY AHEAD E.g. "I have a lot to do tomorrow and need to take things seriously."
7. BIG ISSUES IN YOUR LIFE E.g. "I am going to have to accept the need for a divorce. Its not something I want to admit to myself"

Now try to look through the KEY WORDS section for bridges(its at the top of the page underneath the definitions) and see if any of those phrases seem at all relevant to the quotes you have written down.

SAMPLE DREAM
----------------------------
THE DREAM There is a narrator. He is describing what is happening. There is a large bridge. It traverses a very steep gorge. There are some soldiers at the bottom. They are doing some training. One man is doing some maneuver. He is doing some athletic move. He somehow manages to be catapulted to the top of this bridge. It is expected that he will take hold of the bridge when he gets up there. But instead the narrator says he just comes back down again and dies. Its a huge fall.

THE REALITY The dreamer had made a huge effort in gaining knowledge in a certain field of business. However, after making meticulous preparation he then was delaying setting up his business to exploit his efforts. It seemed he lacked the guts and effort to move forward.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I have made great preperations in setting up a business. I have researched the ideas but when push comes to shove I am not willing to take the step into business. Its just not me."

THE INTERPRETATION The dreamer realised that he was at a junction. He needed to move forward with his business plans. He now realised that he was delaying. The great leap of the man was symbolic of his huge and athletic efforts at making preparations. The narrator is often symbolic of an honest account of the truth. In this case it represented the truth that the dreamer lacked the personal guts and spirit to move forward with his plans.

Symbolic Meanings
BRIDGE : "no turning back - the dreamer is unwilling to make the final emotional commitment and start his business"
DIE : "unable to meet a challenge - his efforts have died a death "
NARRATOR : "an honest account of the truth"
SOLDIER : "tough and resilient - able to manage everything thrown at you"
