DREAM DICTIONARY : This dream dictionary makes the claim that it is better than any other. Why? It works on the assumption that if something very big and important happens the day before then you will surely dream about it. This dictionary collects together such dreams and has meticulously studied their meanings. Try to study the definitions and questions below and see how they relate to real life right now.

DESERT : Growth and plant life in dreams can link to several things but above all it symbolises ways in which you are developing and how something is increasingly meaningful in your life. It may refer to a relationship or to ideas that are healthy within your mind right now. Deserts, however, are not as positive and they signify that something has recently(usually the day before) become a lot less meaningful and important to you. That maybe a relationship which you have realised is not as deep. It maybe is symbolic of your life as a whole and how you feel depressed in general or as if life is holding no meaning. But it more likely refers to specific aspects of your life - an idea or interest which no longer means so much to you.

QUESTIONS to help you make associations(pick the one that makes most sense to you)
- Did you realise yesterday that a relatonship lacks meaning and is not is important as you first thought?

Below you will see a series of quotes. Each quote represents the meaning of a particular dream(these are all dreams where the meaning is understood totally). For instance one dream may have meant that the dreamer was having trouble at work. In that case the quote may simply be "There is a bad atmosphere at work". Some information is included about which dream symbols were included in the dream(within the squares brackets). Often a sample dream is included which shows you how the dream interpretation was reached.

ESSAY : What is the symbolic meaning of deserts in dreams?

The land in dreams symbolises the facts and relationships and circumstances of our life. So if the ground has lots of growth then it shows that life holds meaning for us in some way. But deserts show that life in some way lacks meaning.

Deserts can symbolise life in general and how life seems to hold no meaning for you at the time of the dream. E.g.

"Things have been terrible for me recently and nothing I do seems to have ANY MEANING"[Dream symbol - desert]

Deserts can also refer to your job or to parts of your life. The desert may show that this portion of your life is not as important or as meaningful for you right now.

"I used to think it was the RIGHT JOB FOR ME but now it leaves me cold"[Dream symbol - deserted scrubland]

"I am bored at the moment. My days seem to be endless and meaningless"[Dream symbol - desert]

Deserts can also symbolise a relationship which you now realise is has no real depth or meaning. E.g.

"Well I thought yesterday had marked a real improvement in my relationship with my neighbour. But today he just blanked me"[Dream symbol - desert community][the dream which this quote is based upon is featured in full at the end of this article ]

"I have come to realise that he doesn’t really love me. He just likes to dominate me"[Dream symbol - desert]

"I thought that my friendship with my coworker was much more than I thought. I thought she was a real friend but when I saw her outside work she just said Hi and walked right on"[Dream symbol - desert scrubland]

"My friend was thinking of getting back together with her ex boyfriend but I got into an argument because I was trying to say how bad he was for her and how he never really loved or respected her"[Dream symbol - desert]

DREAM TIP : Deserts will generally link with something that doesn’t mean anything. So simply try to make associations. Dreams concentrate on new things in your life so look for an issue where a lack of meaning features. Maybe you have realised that a relationship means nothing to you or that your job means nothing to you.

SAMPLE DREAM
-----------------------
THE DREAM I am at some kind of desert settlement. The buildings seem to be run down or ruined. It is some shared community and people seem to be cooperating.

THE REALITY The dreamer had generally had a bad relationship with her neighbour. But recently she had had a good talk with her. But the previous day she saw her again and this time they ignored each other again.

THE INTERPRETATION Deserts and scrubland with little greenery in it refer to relationships that lack meaning. If a desert appears in your dream it refers to a friendship without meaning - someone you cannot really depend on. Many dreams can be specific to the day before. They are written in the language of the mind. It can either refer to an absence of real friends in your life or a moment when you realised that a friend was really not that much a friend.

There was an issue with a theme along these grounds the day before. The dreamer had for a long time not got along with her neighbours. But a couple of days before there had been a minor break through. However, the next time she saw her neighbours they reverted back to the old pattern. They both ignored each other.

The dream does seem consistent with this issue. We do have dreams about all sorts of relationships and neighbours are important in a way - sometimes being on bad terms with someone living so close is something that can upset your mind.

The dream did have symbols that are consistent with the issue. The dream dealt with the issue of community spirit. Here it was associated with a desert showing that the community spirit was lacking.

Symbolic Meanings
COMMUNITY : "your local community and people around you - in this case the dreamers neighbour"

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I thought I had got on better relations with my neighbour but we started ignoring each other again"
