DREAM STUDIES : EXTERNAL INFLUENCES
EXTERNAL FACTORS : During dreams we can still hear and sense things
happening around us. Such external factors can be incorporated into dreams.
Often the effect of these factors will be exaggerated in dreams in often bizarre
ways. If you have a TV or radio on at the time then that maybe incorporated
into the dream in odd ways.
The need to go to the toilet is a classic cause of external dreams. Also if
you wake up in an awkward position and it is causing you pain then that will
result in an external dream.

DREAM STUDIES : Real dreams that feature external noise interference and
other factors
---------------------
THE DREAM - I have a simple dream . A voice states to me - "you need
to stop doing This." I start to think and the voice repeats - "NO - You need
to stop doing this"
THE REALITY The dreamer woke up and it took him a couple of seconds to realise
that he was in intense pain with his foot. It was in a very uncomfortable
sleeping position.
THE INTERPRETATION This dream was very much in the real world. The voice represents
a message from the dreamers subconscious. The dreamer woke up wondering what
the dream meant. But then had to move immediately because the pain with his
foot was unbearable. The dreamer liked to study his dreams and this was one
such dream. It was quite a humorous dream and was quite insistent in its message.
It was like it was in conversation - it was correcting the dreamer who immediately
looked to deep meaning. The dreamer was trying to stay still to remember his
dream yet was forced to move.
Symbolic Meanings
YOU NEED TO STOP DOING THIS : "the dreamer needed to stop sitting in
that position because he was in pain that very second"
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I woke up and started to try to understand my dream. Then I realised
that I had an intense pain in my foot(cramp). I then instantly understood
the dream. I really did have to stop doing this and move to relieve the pain."
See how the symbolic meanings link to feelings of pain at the exact moment of the dream
----------------------------------
THE DREAM I was taking giants steps on the moon in an astronaut suit.
THE REALITY When the dreamer woke up from the dream the Police song "Walking
on the Moon" was playing on the radio.
THE INTERPRETATION Often our dreams are shaped by external sources. This is
one obvious case. We can hear perfectly well in dreams and such sources will
shape our dreams. Such dreams are often difficult to interpret. What parts
are part of dream world and what parts are simple noise interference.
----------------------------------
THE DREAM I was walking down Osgodby Crescent(near my childhood home). A song had somehow been chosen to play. It was Champagne Supernova by Oasis. The view down to Osgodby Grove was not how it should be. Instead of a street full of bungalows it was a wonderful beach scene. This was strange because I had just seen the view from Osgodby top. There was a beautiful sunrise there. So there were sunrises wherever I looked.
Then I was in my mothers bed? I was here because she was in my bed? It was not making much sense. I woke up and Champagne Supernova by Oasis was playing on the radio.
THE REALITY The dreamer had woken up and turned the radio on. Later he fell back asleep. The song in the dream was one of the dreamers favorites and was actually playing in real life when he woke up. The song in question features the opening line "where were you when we were getting high". It is a song associated with drugs.
THE INTERPRETATION The song in the dream was playing in real life when the dreamer awoke. It took place during the dream. The dream itself seems to fit in with the mood of the song. It was a somewhat pyschedelic dream with sunsets and sunrises everywhere.
The scene with the beds was strange as well. It was somewhat surreal. But it somewhat followed reality. The radio show the dreamer was listening too featured a web camera in one of the radio presenters bedrooms. This was one of the features the dreamer heard before he went back to sleep. The way that the radio presenter was sleeping reminded the dreamer of the way that he was sleeping.
The song probably has no meaning. The dreamers mind was probably just tuning into the sounds her heard around him. When we have worked through our essential emotional problems then the dream mind may simply try to entertain itself.

THE DREAM I had a dream that penguin from batman was climbing from
the side of my bed, he was biting me. I woke up and it was the cat latching
onto me to get onto the bed.
THE REALITY The dreamer was feeling pain at the same time in real life as
she was in the dream. It was at the exact same moment.
THE INTERPRETATION Often dreams about feelings that we are having at the exact
moment of the dream will include very odd symbols. In this case the Penguin
is a type of joke figure. So the cat is compared to the figure of evil because
he causes the dreamer pain by scratching her. But its also a half comical
moment. But the crucial link here is that the pain is felt simultaneously.

DREAM TIP : The dream mind is a conceptual mind. Therefor try to think
about the kinds of conceptual thoughts and emotions currently occupying your
mind. Try to write down some quotes which capture your feelings on major issues
concerning you and especially events from the day before the dream . For instance
think of quotes like "I have been unhappy at work recently", or "I had a really
strange conversation with my best friend yesterday and do not know what to make of it". Its quotes like this which interest our dream minds. Try to link your dreams to conceptual thoughts currently rising to the surface of your mind.
